Do I need a developer?
Only to paste one line before the closing body tag — and if that is not you, there is a button that emails the snippet to whoever it is.
How do I know it worked?
The install page fetches your homepage from our side and confirms it can see the widget. If your site blocks us it says so, rather than claiming the snippet is missing.
