How does the sitemap checker find a site's sitemap?
It checks the standard location (/sitemap.xml) and reads any Sitemap: directives in the site's robots.txt — the two ways sitemaps are actually discoverable per the sitemaps.org protocol.
What if my site has no sitemap?
The tool reports exactly which locations it checked and found nothing at, so you know it looked in the right places rather than just failing silently.
