Lead capture

How an email address reaches you, with the conversation that earned it attached.

When a visitor is asked

There is no pop-up and no timed interruption. The ask happens at the one moment it is welcome — when the bot cannot answer and offers to get a person instead.

  1. The bot hands off

It says it is not sure and offers to get someone. That offer is the ask: an email field appears in the conversation.

  2. The visitor types an address

One field, inline. Leaving it blank is a normal outcome and the conversation carries on.

  3. It is matched to their conversation

We resolve which conversation it belongs to from the visitor themselves, so the address arrives attached to the question that prompted it.

Note

The request carries no conversation id, on purpose. If it did, anyone could attach an email address to a conversation that was not theirs — so the link is made on our side or not at all.

Where it goes

Each bot has its own delivery address, set under Settings → Notifications.

  • An email with the address, the question and a link to the transcript.
  • A Slack post, if you have added an incoming-webhook URL. Clear the URL to disconnect.
  • The conversation itself, marked as a lead, in that bot's conversation list.

Heads up

Turning email notifications off changes where you are told, never whether it is kept. Leads are still recorded and still visible in the dashboard — a notification preference is not an instruction to throw away business.

What a lead is worth

You can tell us roughly what one lead is worth to you, under the same notification settings.

It is used for one thing: your weekly digest estimates what the week's leads were worth instead of only counting them. Leave it blank and the digest simply counts. It never changes how the bot behaves, when it asks, or who it asks.

What is stored, and for how long

A captured lead is the email address plus the conversation it came from. Alongside that:

  • You are the controller of that data and we are the processor — we do not market to addresses your visitors leave, and we do not sell or share them.
  • You can export everything an account holds, and delete all of it, yourself.
  • The full retention periods and the list of sub-processors are in the privacy and data processing pages.
